To the Worlds Greatest Wife:
All About Darrell and Kelli
Kelli and I met playing an online game called EverQuest, I was a tough Warrior and she was a Healer.
She lived in Florida and I in Texas at the time.
After we became Good Friends online, She flew to Texas to meet me.
I had given her all of my information, name, phone number, address, drivers license number, my parents name and number, and every other bit of information I could think of, for her to give to her Mother, just so it would put her mind at ease, and so she wouldn't think Kelli was coming to Texas to meet some weirdo she met online. (ha ha ha .. little did she know... )
I remember it like it was yesterday, I was standing in the airport, waiting for her to come down the corridor from the plane, my hands were shaking and palms sweaty and I had that sick butterfly in the stomach feeling.
At this time, we did not know what each other looked like, only hair color and what we would be wearing.
Our eyes met as she walked into view, I thought, damn, she's a hottie. (and I still think that to this day.)
I took her back to the airport after the weekend visit, knowing that she would be back in a week because we had made plans to spend a weeks vacation together.
I was wanting everything to go right, and everyone knows, the more you want everything to be perfect, the more things go wrong, so I was a nervous mess.
I knew Kelli liked horseback riding, so I found a nearby bed and breakfast that also offered horseback riding, what a find I thought.
The day came for me to pick Kelli up at the airport for the beginning of our week together.
Our perfect week together.
We arrived at the bed and breakfast the next day, ready to spend the night there and go horseback riding the next morning, perfect I tell you.
When we walked in the room, it was crawling with spiders, there were spiders everywhere, I can not stress enough, just how many spiders were in that place. (I do not like spiders.)
We sat on the sofa and talked for a while, mainly about the spiders.
I seen one crawling across her pants leg and had to do the manly thing, so I swatted it off, which in reality means I smeared spider goo across her white pants leg.
Again we laughed.
It was finally time to get some sleep, we pulled the covers back on the bed to the sight of more spiders, these were obviously cold because they were in the bed under the covers.
Bad idea I thought, how about we just sleep sitting up on the sofa, one of us could stay awake and be lookout, just in case the spiders decided to attack while we were asleep.
Finally, after a couple hours of sleep, the sun came up and we were off on our horseback ride.
We talked about that incident for the remainder of the week, laughing about it, I finally had to tell her about my phobia, I do not like spiders.
The week ended, it was perfect except for the spiders.
The time had come for me to take Kelli back to the airport.
It was the hardest thing to do, it felt as though my heart was being ripped from my chest as I watched the plane take off, not knowing what the future held, but knowing that I was very much in love with her, and hoping she felt the same way.
We finally decided that she should move here, so on Thanksgiving weekend in 2001, I flew to Florida, packed up her things in a u-haul and hooked the Jeep on the back and we were headed for Texas.
That was the Best Thanksgiving Ever.
For almost a year, we lived in a very small apartment, all the while we were looking for a place in the country, We both like the country life.
I had made up my mind, I was in love with this woman and wanted to marry her, and wanting everything to be done right, I called her Mother and asked for her daughters hand, she said yes, I was half way there, now I just needed to get Kelli to say Yes.
I took off work early, went grocery shopping and then home to cook her dinner.
I had dinner on the table, complete with the flowers, candles, and wine, when she got home from work.( it doesn't get any more perfect than this.)
I met Kelli at the door, had her cover her eyes as I took her things and gently tossed them on the floor.
I led her inside, sat her down, and told her she could open her eyes.
She was surprised to see dinner on the table, but not as surprised as she was when I dropped down on my knee and presented her with the ring.
I asked her to marry me and she said Yes.
It was actually more romantic than that, I told her that I was in love with her and how much she meant to me and that I wanted to be her husband and take care of her for the rest of our lives.
We set the date, August 30, 2002.
We also started moving into our home in the country the week before we were married.
Kelli and I just celebrated our fifth anniversary and I can say that I still feel the same way about her and always will.
We enjoy each others company, we talk, we laugh, we never fight and argue.
This, I must say, is Perfect.
Kelli and I like going on vacation, it's the lazy side of us, anything to get out of work.
We have been to Florida a couple of times and are planning a few more trips, just not sure when time will be on our side.
